5 Reviews on “Hillside”
Two nights on the Isle of Barra were not enough. Doreen and Donald provide a warm welcoming home away from home. The rooms were spotless with “tea” waiting on arrival and each afternoon featuring home made treats. Breakfast was terrific and the view from the breakfast table breathtaking.
I had a fantastic stay at Hillside B&B! I stayed for 9 nights and I wish I could have stayed even longer. Breakfast was excellent, as were the home-made cakes I found in my room when I came back in the afternoon. I had the single room with a wonderful seaview and a big bathroom just to myself. Doreen & Donald are the loveliest of hosts and will go the extra mile to help you in any way they can. Doreen booked a trip to Mingulay for me, and even went so far as to lend me her wellies while tumble-drying my walking shoes when I got them soaked!
I will definitely stay there again as soon as I can!
Hillside was a perfect first night’s stay on Barra. We only wish we could have stayed longer. The house feels very welcoming, and Doreen and Donald are fantastic hosts. Everything is spotless and the accommodation is a very high standard. Doreen’s baked goods are a real treat, and she even provided a scrumptious dairy-free cake for my wife, which was a thoughtful touch. We were hiking the Hebridean Way and the tasty, generous breakfast set us up for the long day of walking ahead. Doreen was also kind enough to share a bit about growing up and living on the islands. We’d love to come back for another stay!
I stayed with Doreen and her husband. They were absolutely wonderful. They made us feel at home and being a McNeill as well had nothing to do with it. This is just how they are all the time. The breakfast was delicious and the rooms were comfortable. We can’t wait to see them again in April 2022!
I stayed in hillside recently for a couple of days and was very impressed. The not only the room but the house (communal areas) was spotless. Doreen was very cautious running you through all the Covid restrictions. I had my own private bathroom. For breakfast, as some of the restrictions were still in place, the night before you would let Doreen know what you would like on your roll (a choice of lorne sausage or bacon), there was also a fruit bowl, b/fast bar, pot of yogurt and a carton of juice to set you up for the day. A 10 minute walk to the local co-op and 5 from the ferry port. there is also a big sitting area outside with chairs and a log burner for colder evenings. Over all I can’t fault hillside B&B at all and I shall return someday!
Doreen was a great host, lovely food & really comfortable & spotless accommodation. Would definitely recommend to friends. Thanks for a great stay. PS loved the beaches ?
